Captin Reed has successfully undertaken three circumnavigations of the world (Two East to West and One West to East). One of these was undertaken in a 28 ft sloop. Upon completion of his last voyage, he spent several years exploring the canals and waterways of Europe.

Discovering "Fedele" in Newburyport MA he personally restored her to her pristine condition and is constantly seeking ways to improve the smallest of details aboard her.

Your Captain served in the Royal Navy (British) for over 20 years and is a licensed United States Coast Guard (USCG). The Captain has a world of sailing knowledge (40 years ++ but who's counting!) at his fingertips.

Searsport Charters was founded in 2006 to provide opportunities for people from all walks of life to explore "Life on the ocean's wave".

While working with disabled youth in New Hampshire, Reed discovered that sailing was a wonderful way to encourage his charges to undertake responsibility and productive work.

Upon moving to Maine in the Fall of 2005, (after a gruelling 32-hour sail North from Massachusetts), he decided to combine his love for sailing with his new-found desire to expose non-sailors to the joys of the ocean.

He says tThis was the best decision of his life. Since starting the business he has been able to provide people with the desire to own their own boat, renew confidence in themselves and their own abilities within life, and provide hands on training in a very pro-active and practical manner that others take for granted.
